3x faster, logging in seconds - these are pretty big claims, so let's see how SnackScale delivers on these promises.
A bit of backstory: I’m not an intuitive eater and for me, calorie tracking is the only answer. I’ve been tracking calories for almost a decade but I hate how complicated it is.
Take MyFitnessPal, for example. It loads for 2-4 seconds, then you need multiple taps just to start logging. Overall, it just has a lot of design and other flaws that get in your way for no reason.
SnackScale's goal is to make logging as easy as possible without sacrificing accuracy. This comes down to a combination of factors:
1. Instant launch straight to the Log Food screen
When you're logging multiples times every day, you want the app to open as fast as possible. It shouldn't make you wait.
SnackScale is optimized to launch in around 0.5 seconds. Tap the icon and you're ready to log:

2. Designed for speed and convenience
Minimizing taps, screens, movements, gestures + showing contextual quick actions at every step.
Every logging flow has been carefully designed to make it as easy and fast as possible.
Quick actions are displayed above the keyboard, so you don't need to reach across
3. Smart search
If you search for something in MyFitnessPal, you'll likely get a dozen of contradicting results and you're left guessing which one is correct.
SnackScale does a smart search through a verified database and returns the exact result you're looking for.
It saves your time + you know the nutritional data is correct because it's from a verified source.

4. Barcode search
Barcode search does work pretty well in most apps but some hide it behind a subscription.
In SnackScale, barcode search is fast and 100% free with no limitations.

5. Powerful Quick Add
It's like a calculator wrapped in a nicer UI. You can input calories, macros, change quantities or even multi-add items.
Other apps limit Quick Add because they don't want you to be actually using it, they'd rather have you contribute to their database instead.
But there are a lot of valid cases for using Quick Add and SnackScale gives the power to you - use whatever is most convenient.

6. AI Assist
Let's say you're at a restaurant. Unless it provides nutritional data, it's impossible to know how many calories are in your meal. In this case, you need a good estimate, so you can stay consistent and keep tracking.
That's what SnackScale's AI Assist is for. Describe your meal and it will give you a best guess based on similar foods.
It's integrated with the search field and activates automatically when needed.

7. History and pinned items
If you drink a protein shake 1-2 times every day, you need a very easy way to log it.
In SnackScale, the home screen shows your recent history and you can pin items for quick access.
Logging a pinned item takes literally 2 seconds - open the app, tap, confirm. Done.
You can also select multiple items and adjust quantities from a single screen if needed.
This is a simple but very useful feature because everyone has items they log daily and SnackScale is highly optimized for this case. It's also why SnackScale gets even faster over time as you build out your library of foods.

8. Everything is editable
Products, barcodes, Quick add - doesn't matter how you're logging, every flow uses the same UI and every entry is fully editable. You don't need to worry about affecting other users, all changes are saved locally on your device.
Every value is easily editable
9. Customizable goals and macros
Personally, I follow a high-protein diet, so I mostly care about calories and protein.
But someone on a keto/low-carb diet needs to watch carbs, for example.
SnackScale is highly customizable and you can configure it to fit your goals. You can also hide macros that you don't want to track.

10. What's next?
SnackScale is currently in beta (scheduled for release in August 2025) and there are a lot of features planned next.
Coming soon:
Multi-item log (e.g. "½ cup oats and 1 tbsp peanut butter")
Voice logging
Saving food combinations as groups
… and much more.
The goal is to create the most convenient calorie tracker on the market.
And lastly, does it work?
Yes. I've been using SnackScale while building it and I lost around 20 lb (9 kg) since March.
It has made tracking easier than ever before for me and I hope that will be the case for you as well.
